School of the Year for Five Years Running

We are delighted to have been named School of the Year once again in 2022-2023. RGS has won the award for our community engagement and outreach programme. This work is essential as it helps prepare our children for life beyond school, RGS students are well-educated, not just well-qualified.

The judging panel from Education Today celebrated the work we do which makes a difference every day in our community through our outreach programmes, inclusivity and diversity programmes, extra-curricular activities and charity work. Mrs Lawson, Assistant Head and Head of Outreach, has been recognised as School of the Year Community Champion for her exceptional work in with the local community and outreach.

The judges recognised the work RGS do to support local charities including The Giant Pledge. Loveworks, Stripey Stork and The Orpheus Centre as well as Renewed Hope and many more, asw ell as our extensive outreach programme which offers Master Classes, aimed at our local state primaries as enrichment for students with specialist interest in a variety of subjects. These Master Classes are run by RGS staff and Sixth Form students. Our Elective programme for the Third and Fourth Form further broadens our Outreach to the local community. It includes partnerships with three local state primaries where RGS students can go in and help with reading and classroom activities, and to two local Care Homes, as well as two electives with Stripey Stork and Loveworks where our students help with food bank collection and fundraising and helping in the warehouse for Stripey Stork with clothes and items for vulnerable families and babies.
