How and when to join

Most of our students join RGS at one of our three main entry points; 11+, 13+ and 16+. 

Occasional places may become available in other year groups, please do get in touch to find out more.

Ready to apply? 

You can register your child at any time via our online application form. There is a non-refundable registration fee of £180 for UK applications, or £240 for overseas, supplementary, or late applications. (Please note: acceptance of the fee does not guarantee a place.) 

Late or supplementary applications are always considered where possible. The assessment process for these may vary, and our Admissions Team will be happy to advise.

The most common entry point, where around 160 students join us each year from a wide range of local primary and prep schools. A warm welcome to the first step in joining RGS.  Each year, we welcome boys and girls into Year 7 who are ready to begin an exciting new chapter. We understand that choosing the right senior school is a big decision for families, and our aim is to make the process as supportive and straightforward as possible.  Who Can Apply?  Students joining us at 11+ will be 11 years old by 1 September of the year of entry. Each year, we offer around 160 places for students from a wide range of local primary and preparatory schools.  What to Expect  All applicants will sit entrance examinations in three areas:  English Mathematics Reasoning (Verbal and non-verbal) These are designed to identify potential and give every student the chance to shine. Sample papers are available to help prepare, and our friendly Admissions Team are always happy to answer any questions.  On entrance exam day, students also take part in a fun, informal activity session, it is a lovely opportunity to experience a little of RGS life.  Following the exams, shortlisted candidates are invited for interview. This includes an individual conversation with a member of staff, where we will chat about hobbies, interests and what excites them about learning.
