Netball 1st Team Success

The 2018/19 season has certainly been one to remember for the RGS Netball 1st team. The season began with a gold medal at Caterham’s Fast 5 Tournament, having beaten the likes of Portsmouth Grammar, Caterham and Emanuel. After a quick win at the first round of the Surrey’s, beating eight others in their group, the girls’ season was off to a flying start!

The cup season began shortly after, with RGS entered into two National Competitions; The Independent Schools’ Netball Cup (ISNC) and the National Cup. After successful fixtures against Putney High, Notting Hill and Ealing, Wimbledon High and St Edmund’s College RGS found themselves in the quarter finals for both competitions. After a hard defeat against Royal Russell, RGS were knocked out of the National Cup which left the girls wanting the Independent Cup even more.

After beating Epsom College 40-28 RGS’s girls had successfully secured a place in the semi finals of the ISNC, a feat that no team at RGS had come close to achieving until this season. After drawing Millfield in the semi’s RGS knew there was a lot of work to be done. RGS utilised their regular block fixtures by working on all set plays and other tactical play. Unfortunately it was not meant to be and Millfield took the victory.

Vice-Captain Niki O said:

I am so proud of the team to have reached this far. We stepped up to the challenge and put RGS Netball on the map.

With only two of the squad members leaving, we could not be more excited to see what this group of girls can achieve next year. Best of luck to Captain, Millie M and Vice, Niki O as they prepare for their university careers at Nottingham and Leeds.
