Tonbridge Ultimate (Frisbee) Tournament Success
On Saturday 13 May two teams from RGS travelled to Tonbridge School to compete in their annual Ultimate (Frisbee) Tournament. After finishing second and fourth last year, the teams were both looking to go one better this year.
The 1st Team, comprised primarily of Lower Sixth Form students, won all five of their matches over the course of the day. This included good wins against the Tonbridge 1st Team in the final, and against a Coaches’ Team comprising two GB coaches. The team played with great intensity in all of their games, despite the challenging conditions.
The 2nd Team was a mix of experienced Lower Sixth Form, Fifth Form and Fourth Form students playing in their first Ultimate fixture for the school. Having made it through their pool in second place they played the RGS First VII in the semi-final and held them to 1‑4, making the 1st Team work hard. They finished the day on a high with a neck-and-neck game versus the Tonbridge 2nd Team, which they won in the final few minutes finishing the day in third place.
The feedback from other coaches was very encouraging: they complemented the teams’ playing style and flow. After a successful tournament both teams are looking to build upon their successes ahead of the National Tournament in June.
